| Weighing scales for Pregnant Moms |
Diagnostic tools are few and far between in the villages in DR Congo. One of the most effective ways to determine if a pregnant woman is developing life-threatening problems is to monitor her weight. Rapid weight gain along with high blood pressure could indicate pre-eclampsia, a problem which can be treated if diagnosed quickly enough.
These super-duper heavy-duty scales were just delivered to villages along the Luapula River in the Kasenga area amidst much cheering and fanfare. They're built Ford-truck-tough to last!
Note the container of paint behind the scales. This will be used to renew the little birthing centers to hospital-white!
